Given the large pallet of activities, Witzara offers a unique opportunity to contribute.

1)      Offset your carbon emissions

Once you have determined your emissions with our carbon calculator, there are two options to offset them:

a)      Buy the necessary number of trees

The two species chosen (acacia mangium and eucalyptus pellita) grow at a very fast rate under the tropical conditions of the Vichada and reach maturity after only 10 to 12 years; this is twice as fast as other species grown in continental climates. In average a tree will absorb during its growing period ca. 500 Kg of carbon dioxide (CO2), but because the intake of CO2 varies during the different growth stages it is important to look at the overall intake during the full life of the tree, it is therefore a long term commitment.

This option allows you to purchase the necessary number of trees to offset your yearly emission. The cost of the offset, represents the cost of the seeds, the planting and the care of the trees until its maturity (minimum 10 years)

In order to reduce the costs, the ownership of the trees will remain with Witzara. This allows the harvest and the local processing of the wood into long lasting items such as planks, posts and poles.

b)      Buy CO2 certificates

We have already started several plantations in the area and currently have over 200 Ha, representing more than 200’000 trees. Each Ha absorbs in average 15 Tons of CO2 per year. You can offset your emissions by buying the credits represented by these existing trees. This is a short term commitment.

2)      Participate to the social program

Because our social activities are underpinned by the forestry project, there is nor red link or bureaucracy. You have the guarantee that 100% of your donations will be dedicated to the well being and development of the local community. If you like to make a donation, please click here (link)

An other way to actively participate is by spending time in the area. We are looking for enthusiastic people with experience in the areas of rural development, education, farming, basic health care and hygiene, prepared to spend some weeks in Vichada and support our programs on a voluntarily basis.
